Special Offers – Week of Monday August 24th

by

Good afternoon all, hope Monday finds you well. If nothing else, I suppose you can always keep in mind that at least we’re 20% of the way through the week by the end of Monday afternoon. Anyway, most of you will be familiar with this already, but on a Monday afternoon we post the special offers we’re running that we think you guys might be interested in over the coming week.

Incidentally, we’ve removed the delivery charge to our Pickup Point for the foreseeable future, so these prices are the amount you can expect to pay if you don’t mind taking a drive up to the PUP and grabbing it yourself 🙂

Anyway, enough mindless prattle, this week we have on offer an Intel Core 2 Duo processor, a Lynksys Wireless-N router and a Western Digital Caviar 1TB hard drive.

Intel Core 2 Duo E7400, 2.8GHz:

As ever, when it comes to processors it’s hard to know what to say. This Core 2 Duo is marked down by 17%, brining the price down to €99. For your €99 you’ll net 2.8GHz

I know the box for a processor doesn’t do it too much justice, but it’s always nce to have an image to go alongside the product name 🙂 I guess the salient point here is that it’s socket LGA775 and it’s got a 3MB L2 cache.

The only real problem is that when it comes to processors everyone has different interests/needs, so if you’d like to pick up a nice processor for €99 then you should check out the expanded product page here for more information.

Western Digital Caviar GreenPower 1TB:

Generally, the cheapest drives we sell tend to be the Samsung SpinPoint F1, which sits at €72.50 for a 1TB disc. By comparison, the Western Digital Caviar Greenpower is another 1TB drive, but boasts better energy efficiency than other drives.

Moreover, the Caviar is often recommended as a more reliable drive than both the SpinPoint F1 and the Hitachi DeskStar, both slightly cheaper 1TB drives. This week, the WD Caviar GreenPower 1TB will set you back 6% less, leaving it at €74.01, which isn’t a bad old deal for such a solid drive.

By now we know well that our blog readers tend to be quite tech-savvy, so I won’t bore you with details about what you can fit on a 1TB drive except to say that the Caviar makes a fine base for a decent RAID array, especially with the price knocked down a bit.

You can grab the Western Digital Caviar GreenPower 1TB here.

Linksys Wireless-N Home Router:

The last device on offer this week is a Linksys router. It’s got a four port switch and supports the not-quite finalised 802.11n standard, so you can expect to get the right kind of speed bump out of it if you’re moving to wireless N from B/G.

You’ll also be glad to hear that it boasts its own SPI firewall and boasts a “good neighbour” mode, to ensure you don’t end up treading on your neighbours’ wireless toes in the name of getting faster wireless access. If nothing else it’s a nice feature, and one that you locality might appreciate without ever knowing it exists.

Apart from that, there’s a raft of features you can check out over at the expanded product page here. Again, different people have different needs from a router, so we imagine it’d be far better for us to just link to a nice big chart with all of the device’s features than anything else.

You can pick up the Linksys Wireless-N router, here for €55. If nothing else, it’s a far more elegant device than most of the routers we tend to see.
