Special Offers – Halloween Week

by

Good afternoon all, hopefully the long weekend was kind to you (though not so kind that it’s making the return to work too hard on you). Normally we run our Special Offers for the week on a Monday afternoon, but given the week that’s in it we’re going to have to run with it today instead 😉

This week we’re offering a 1TB extneral hard drive, an AMD processor and an OCZ power supply. Without any more delay, we’ll get to the products themselves.

Packard Bell Carbon 1TB:

Whenever people ask about a low-cost 1TB external drive, we tend to direct them towards the Western Digital Elements, which weighs in at €76. For this week though, Packard Bell’s Carbon is down to €73, which pretty much makes it the cheapest 1TB external drive on offer.

By contrast to the Western Digital Elements, the Carbon is relatively simple aesthetically, lacking the rubberised chunks at either end that keep the Elements raised. This means that the Carbon is a bit easier to store, either in a backpack or just around the house.

Because of its power saving features, it’ll automatically drop itself to low power mode when your machine is turned off but the drive is still connected. That means it’s an excellent drive for those who’ll be happy to just plug it in and leave it on a shelf or desk and use it to store an archive of their media or even something as simple as a backup of a particularly important system.

When you consider the euro per GB cost, you’re getting around 13.6GB for €1, which isn’t a bad deal by any stretch of the imagination (unless my maths is out by miles). If you’re at all interested, you can check out our product page for the Packard Bell Carbon 1TB external to see more details and a few more pictures of the device itself.

At €73 it’s down 18% for this week.

AMD Phenom II X4 940 Black Edition:

AMD’s Phenom II X4 940 is a solid quad-core 3GHz processor. This week we’ve got it knocked down to €165, so adding that bit more oomph to your rig needn’t hit your wallet too hard.

As ever, the best way for you to get as much information as possible is by reading its detailed product page. The fact is, people interested in picking up a new processor tend to be interested in different things, but there are some salient details that’ll be useful for everyone. As you might expect, the Phenom II X4 940 is a 64-bit processor that fits Socket AM2+ and is built on a 45nm architecture.

It’s also nice to be able to point out that the only customer review posted of the Phenom II X4 940 is a 5/5, in which the author says, “Its overclockability is Great have it running at 3.61 GHZ and completely Stable. Might get Watercooling to hit the 4ghz mark.”

While we can’t advocate overclocking (because let’s face it, that’s just not what most processors are built for), it’s nice to see that someone’s pleased with its performance in that regard.

As we said above, the AMD Phenom II X4 940 Black Edition is down to €165 for this week, so it’s well worth considering for anyone looking at an upgrade. You can check out our product page for it if you’d like to see some more detail on it.

OCZ StealthXStream Power Supply:

We try to make sure we have power supplies on offer every few weeks. They’re one of those essential parts that, when something goes wrong, tend to warrant a very quick replacement indeed.

Click through to see our page for the OCZ StealthXStream PSU :)

OCZ’s StealthXStream is a solid and reliable 500W power supply. The whole point is for it to be as inconspicuous as possible, as such it doesn’t boast an array of LEDs, though I’m sure that If you’re bothered you can throw a bundle in there to spotlight it.

The cooling is handled by a single 120mm fan, which means that there’s no unnecessary noise either. The whole affair should be quite discreet.

Again, we have a customer review on this product that gives it 5/5, noting that, “This PSU is very stable and hasn’t caused any problems, this is my second OCZ PSU and I’m impressed with the build quality.”

Anyway, there’s not too much to say about a PSU, so if you have an interest do check out our product page for the OCZ StealthXStream Powersupply, for this week it’s been knocked down to just €49.

That’s it for the special offers post this week, but if you’re looking for a little extra you should check out our Day Breaker tab on the homepage. Every day, we do a new offer, so there tends to be a little something for everyone over the course of a week 🙂
