Special Offers – Week of Novermber 1st

by

Good afternoon all, hopefully the Halloween weekend was kind to you guys (and to those of you with kids, hopefully you’ve not gone too mad on their sweets). For those who aren’t too familiar with the way we roll on the blog, every Monday we post a list of the items that are on Special Offer for the week; it means people have as long as possible to decide whether or not to go for an item on offer.

Anyway, this week, we have a Philips display, a Sapphire Radeon graphics card and a printer on offer. There’s a little something for everyone, so it’s worth having a look 🙂

Philips 20” Wide:

The full name for this Philips 20-inch widescreen display is the “Philips 20” Wide 201E1SB, which is a bit of a mouthful, so for now we’ll avoid using the serial-number of a name and just call it the “Philips 20” Wide.”

It’s a sleek, elegant display, with a 16:9 aspect ratio for those who like to watch movies or play their games in cinema-style widescreen. It boasts a 5ms response time, which means that it won’t disappoint sports fans or demanding gamers when it comes to visual lag.

Perhaps most importantly, it boasts a contrast of 25000:1, which means you’re going to get solid blacks out of it. Naturally, they won’t be on the same level as the blacks you might expect from a plasma display, but they’re better than a lot of LCD options, which is going to be important to movie and videogame fans.

It’ll do both 720p and 1080i, which should keep the high-definition hungry quite happy, though it’s worth noting that it doesn’t take a HDMI cable, so you’re stuck with either VGA or DVI for input. All that said, it’s marked down by fully 10% this week, so you could do a lot worse.

The Philips 20” Wide is down to €125. If you’d like to read more about or see more images of it then you can check out our product page for it.

Sapphire Radeon HD 5850:

As ever, everyone who takes a look at a graphics card is looking for something different out of the package, so I tend not to post too much beyond the salient points on them. That said, this week the Sapphire Radeon HD 5850 is down by nearly 20% to €279, which is always cool.

The Sapphire Radeon HD 5850 is a PCI Express 2.0 card, as well you might expect. It also boasts 1GB of GDDR5 RAM and a video output of 2560 x 1600. It’s a solid little card that’ll sort you out for some excellent gaming. For those curious about it, it’s fully Windows 7 compatible.

All that aside, it’s nice to be able to say that it’s won a few awards for itself too (three, no less). Anyway, as I said, it’s a solid DirectX 11 capable card that won’t set you back a criminal amount. It’s ideal for anyone looking to treat themselves before the Christmas rush takes all their money away 😉

If you’re at all interested, you can check out the Sapphire Radeon HD 5850 in more detail over at our product page for it. If you’re looking for even more detail, check out the “Additional Information” tab. As I said above, it’s down to €279, which isn’t a bad deal at all.

Epson Stylus SX405:

If there’s one underrated factor when it comes time to choose a printer, it’s probably style. The fact is, most of us will have a printer sitting around, mostly idle, but usually in full view. If it’s going to be on display, it might as well look good, and this Epson looks quite nice.

The Stylus SX405 is a printer/scanner/copier combo. When copying it’ll do up to 30 pages a minute, when printing that slides up to 34 per minute. The maximum printing resolution is around the 5760 x 1440 dpi mark, for both colour and black and white.

It has its own 2.5” display, so you’ll have some feedback on the device itself when you need to know what it’s doing. Just like the above, it’s down by 18% for this week, which puts it at the very tempting €65 mark. It’s ideal for anyone looking for a home office printer/scanner/copier that won’t break the bank.
