Good morning all. Those of you who keep up with us on Twitter will already know that 1300 today is the closing date for people who want orders to be delivered to them in time for Christmas via An Post. With that in mind, there’s a little under three hours to get last minute orders in.
There are a few things that will always go down well, won’t break the bank and just about everyone will find a use for over the coming year that we think will make fine last-minute Christmas presents for those who haven’t managed to get all of their shopping done yet (and let’s not kid ourselves, we’re firmly in that category ourselves).
Western Digital Elements 1TB:
Western Digital’s Elements 1TB external hard drive is a simple enough thing to pick up for Christmas, but it’s also one of those “gifts that keeps on giving.” Moreover, it’s only €79, which means you can grab one for your nearest and dearest without bankrupting yourself.
There’s nothing like giving someone the gift of not having to worry about deleting things; it’s relatively simple, but hard drive purchases are something that tend to get put on the long finger until, eventually, you realise you’ve got a fast-filling hard drive in your main machine and nowhere to put whatever is taking up your space.
Better still, there’s nothing like being there when someone is restoring a machine from a backup and having the self-satisfied little grin that says, “He only has that backup because picked up the drive.”
It’s the little things that help make it through Christmas, but the promise of being able to be smug later on is a bonus. You can check out the Western Digital Elements 1TB in more detail on our product page for it if you’re interested.
WD TV HD Media Player:
At the risk of looking like something of a Western Digital fanboy, the WD TV HD Media Player is another of our bestsellers that comes in under the €100 mark.
Western Digital is generally better known for its hard drives, but the WD TV HD Media Player is an elegant little player that plugs into your external storage on one side, and into your TV on the other. It’s relatively simple and easy to use, comes with its own remote, and allows you to play content directly from an external drive to your TV… if nothing else, it saves you the trouble of building a home theatre PC, which can be a long and involved process.
Western Digital’s TV HD Media Player will set you back the reasonable sum of €89, and it really is an excellent device for the money. We’re thoroughly impressed by it.
Apple iPod Shuffle 4GB:
Apple’s iPod Shuffle has come a long way since its first incarnation, which seemed an awful lot like a Duplo block with some flash memory and a headphone jack. It’s retained its simplicity and low price though, which is always nice.
The iPod Shuffle is ideal for those who go enjoy a bit of exercise and don’t want to be tied down to a bulkier device that will handle their whole music library. The whole point with the Shuffle is that less is more, and it’s hard to argue with once you see the whole arrangement; it’s miniscule and looks more like a clip than an MP3 player.
Apple’s 4GB iPod Shuffle will set you back €79, which isn’t bad at all considering the amount of memory in there and the fact that it’s a gorgeous little device.
As an added bonus, we also carry the iPod Shuffle in silver.
Acer 23” Wide:
Acer’s 23” widescreen display weighs in at the €149 mark, making it the most expensive of our last-minute gift recommendations, but also the most fiendish. This is one of those gifts that is, let’s face it, just lovely…
That said, it can also be one of those fiendishly self-serving presents. If you’ve got someone in your house who’s hogging TV-time to get themselves an extra few games of Modern Warfare 2 in, then you’d do well to pick up a nice, 23” display for them to take their console to another room with. If you prod them just right, you can have the whole console business banished from the living room pretty much eternally.
For that, €149 seems a fairly small price to pay 😉
