Jobs has Harsh Words for Google, Adobe

by

It seems that Steve Jobs has had some fairly harsh criticisms for both Google and Adobe, both of whose products have seen some unfavourable comparisons made with Apple’s own.

Indeed, the issue between Apple and Adobe is a long running one, and it’s only deepened in recent months since Adobe announced that it was willing on putting some work into developing a version of Flash for Apple’s iPhone OS, which runs both the iPhone and iPod Touch, and now the tablet-styled iPad. Indeed, it seems that Apple wasn’t quite as receptive to the idea as Adobe would have likes, so it seems that the project is on hold. Jobs words for Adobe were harshest, with Wired reporting him as having said that,

“Whenever a Mac crashes more often than not it’s because of Flash. No one will be using Flash … the world is moving to HTML5.”

Certainly, that does seem to be the trend, with some of the biggest names in online video distribution, including both YouTube and Vimeo having already moved to HTML5 rather than Flash for video presentations.

Jobs went on to talk about Google’s recent move to the cellular phone market with the release of its Nexus One and the gradual proliferation of Android-based smartphones. Jobs words on Google weren’t quite as harsh as Adobe, but the man clearly feels strongly about that situation too saying that,

“We did not enter the search business. They entered the phone business. Make no mistake they want to kill the iPhone. We won’t let them … one more thing. This don’t be evil mantra: It’s bullshit.”

Mad stuff, but let’s not forget that Jobs has always had a level of dedication approaching “televangelist” or perhaps “holy crusade,” so perhaps this kind of tirade isn’t entirely unexpected.

Of course, the flip side of all this is that it paints Jobs himself and, by some kind of strange osmosis, Apple itself.
