Top 10 Illegally Downloaded Movies of 2009

While there will always be awards and ceremonies, there are all kinds of ways to see what the top movies of any given year were, not least of which the movies that have been pirated the most.

TorrentFreak has posted a list of the top ten most pirated movies of this year, and while we’ve seen some fairly massive releases over the course of the year, you might be interested to see what did and what didn’t make the big list. So, while the critics are sure to have already decided what the best films of this year were, the list of the top ten most pirated movies is a very democratic one… though those in the movie industry would likely estimate it to be a democracy of thieves.



Paramount Worried About Piracy Uptake

Paramount is arguing that internet piracy is now far more harmful to the film industry than before due to the ease with which non-technical users can get their hands on pirated content.

I sometimes wonder if images like this glorify piracy, but then I remember how much I like boats and post them anyway 😉

Of course, that’s not the only concern the Paramount folks have. In a letter to the FCC, Paramount outlines the reasoning behind the increase in piracy, saying that, “Just five years ago, one had to be computer literate and exceedingly patient to pirate movies. Today, literally anyone with an internet connection can do it.” That’s not all though, Paramount continued to rail against the faux-legitimacy that many piracy websites manage to achieve, including the fact that on-site advertising can help make very much illicit activities seem quite legal.
