Special Offers – Week of November 9th

November 9, 2009

Good afternoon all, hopefully everyone has had a good weekend and Monday is treating you guys well, though we’re aware there are some pretty nasty bugs going around so if anyone’s sick then get well soon. For those of you who aren’t familiar, we like to do a Special Offers post every Monday with the offers for the week.

This means you guys have longer to decide whether or not you’re up for a purchase, it’s a solid plan. This week’s special offers are pretty much all Apple products, from iPods to MacBooks.

We aim to be cheaper than the Irish Apple Store on pretty much all of the Apple products that we stock.

iPod Touch 64GB:

When Apple announced an event in September, many had expected to hear that the iPod Touch would be graced with an iPhone-style camera. While that turned out not to be the case, Apple instead showed off the third generation of the iPod Touch, which boasts a few fairly nifty features of its own.

Perhaps most impressive of those new features is the fact that the newest version of the Touch boasts increased capacity over its predecessors, scaling up from the previous max of 32GB to a new high of 64GB, which finally gives serious music fans the option to have a proper library on a flash-based device.

The other big bonus about the newest incarnation of the iPod Touch is that it boasts the same processor as the iPhone 3G S, meaning that it’s significantly more capable than on older models. This is good news to fans of Apple’s App Store and the vast number of games and media available from it. For many the iPod Touch is a nice way to get in on the App Store without needing to sink money into the contract you’d need to get the same from an iPhone. It makes a lot of sense in that respect.

The 64GB iPod Touch is €349.

If that feels like a little much, the 32GB Touch is €269, while the 8GB Touch is just €179.

Stock at the PUP

November 6, 2009

Hey there all, from time to time we like to update people on items that we have in stock at our Dublin Pickup Point (or the PUP). Basically, if something is really popular and doesn’t take up a monumental amount of space, we try to have a couple in stock locally to save people the trouble of ordering it.

At the moment, we have some items that we think people might actually like, some are a bit cheaper than the price listed on our web page too… so if you decide to buy at the PUP you’ll not only save yourself the trouble of ordering online, but you can just show up now and pick it up, saving you delivery time too.

We were most happy to be able to sort one of our Twitter followers (the ever charming @Shiminay) out with a hard drive when he was in a bit of a pinch yesterday, so with any luck we’ll be able to do the same for more people by telling you guys what we have available at the PUP.

Battlestar

At the moment we have Corsair’s Flash Voyager for €19.50, a USB stick that (thanks to the helpful @Feylya) we’ve come to know simply as “The Battlestar” for a combination of its shape and extreme durability. We can’t advise you to do nightmarish things to it, but it is water proof… white water rafting while transporting important data is at last a possibility.

It’s something people like to see as local stock because somehow there always seems to be a day when someone suddenly realises a need for some removable storage.

Product Spotlight – USB Flash Drives

September 15, 2009

Hey there all, continuing the theme this week we’re running product spotlights on some of the most impressive products in our Crazy Week sale (which you guys should definitely check out, there are a lot of things marked down by more than twenty percent).

Anyway, we’re offering some excellent deals on USB sticks that are well worth checking out. The products spotlit for today are two very different memory sticks, but between them they should keep you covered for pretty much every eventuality.

Kingston DataTraveler Mini Slim 8GB:

The first is Kingston’s DataTraveler Mini Slim at €15.01. First off, it’s excellent to be able to recommend a USB stick at just a shade over €15 that’s fully 8GB, but at the same time, it’s one of that charming style of USB devices that manages to be so very small as to not have the usual USB arrangement.

As you can tell from the above image, it’s of that strange variety of USB devices that slots directly into the USB port itself. If nothing else it’s one of the most elegant USB sticks we sell, and being able to offer 23% off it is always an excellent deal. That said, it is a poor choice for people who tend to get things lost though it does boast a slot for it to be attached to a keyring, which should prevent most of us from losing it.

Still, if you’re the kind of person who runs through multiple USB sticks in a month or two then you might prefer the device below.

Corsair Flash Voyager 8GB:

By contrast to the DataTraveler, Corsair’s Flash Voyager is a ore rugged and heavy duty affair. It’s also more deserving of the title “thumbg-drive” than just about anything else on offer, being as it is almost exactly the same size as a big thumb. Moreover, it’s also 8GB for €15.01 this week.

It’s nice to be able to say that, all things being equal (in terms of cost and capacity) the only reasons to choose between the two devices are down to personal preference. The Corsair certainly has durability on its side though and has one a slew of awards, which you can see on its product page.

Corsair’s Flash Voyager is down 17% this week, while Kingston’s Data Traveler Mini Slim is down 23%. Remember that delivery to our pickup point is free too, so if you’re within driving distance then the €15.01 is all you’ll have to pay for either stick 🙂
