iPad to Hit Ireland in March

Apple’s iPad has been given something of a more solid release date for both the UK and Ireland, and it must be said that it’s a little ahead of Steve Jobs estimated June/July timeframe.

Indeed, Apple has updated it’s store page for those looking to pick up the touch-screen device, confirming pre-announcement rumours that Apple would start shipping the device in March. Of course, when those rumours first hit there was no indication yet that we’d see two different flavours of the device (one 3G capable and the other not). The update to Apple’s page simply reads,

“Wi-Fi models shipping in late March.
3G models shippin in April.
Local pricing to be announced.”

French Copyright Group Logo Infringes Copyright

It seems that France’s controversial three-strikes law for copyright offenders is being enforced by a body that doesn’t care too much for copyright itself… with the group’s logo infringing one copyright already.

According to the folks at TorrentFreak, the Hadopi group’s logo makes use of a font that wasn’t licensed for use in its logo. Moreover, the font itself isn’t just not licensed to them, but, having been developed by staff in-house at France Telecom, it seems that the font can’t legally be licensed for use by anyone outside the company. Indeed, they managed to get some time to talk to the man who made the font itself, Jean-Francois Porchez.

Orange Nets iPhone for UK

UK cellular provider Orange has announced that it has secured the right to sell Apple’s iPhone in the UK, ending the exclusive deal between Apple and O2 for the device since its launch in the UK.

Of course, there’s no word on just what will happen with O2’s iPhone exclusivity in Ireland, but with the original deal to sell the device exclusively set to expire in October we’re all very interested to see just what happens with the iPhone in Ireland. Of course, the move by Orange is a pretty positive sign that we’ll see similar uptake here, but for now details seem pretty scant on just what might happen to the iPhone in Ireland.
