Special Offers – Week of January 10th

January 4, 2010

Happy new year everyone, hopefully you’re all as warm and well as we are here, despite the icy conditions surrounding Komplett towers. The big thaw is on, everyone is back to work and with it we’ve got some special offers we thoughts you might be interested in… for the “back to work” vibe.

This week, we’ve got a gorgeous display, a graphics card and a netbook bundle on offer. We won’t stall any longer, here are the products themselves.

Samsung 21.5” LCD Syncmaster 2233SN:

Samsung’s flair for design is something that comes up time and time again when we talk about displays. The fact is that they’re not the cheapest when it comes to hardware, but the kit is well worth the asking price when you factor in how good it looks.

Click through to see our page for the Samsung Syncmaster 2233SN 🙂

Samsung’s Syncmaster 2233SN is a 21.5-inch, widescreen display with a maximum resolution of 1920 x 1080, which should mean you’re not hampered at all when it comes to viewing high-definition content or playing games. The response time is low at 5ms, so sports fans and gamers should be well catered to.

The case is a glossy black, tapering to a transparent bevel along the bottom of the display, with a nice, slim stand to prop the whole thing up. It’s relatively simple, but gives the whole affair a classy kind of a feel that many other displays don’t quite manage.

Samsung’s Syncmaster 2233SN has been dropped to €144.99 this week, which isn’t a bad old deal at all.

Special Offers – Week of November 23rd

November 23, 2009

Good afternoon all, hopefully everyone’s had a good weekend and we’re all reasonably well recovered from last week, which was a bit of a nightmare. Anyway, for those of you who don’t read the blog too often, we tend to post our special offers for the week on a Monday afternoon, since it means they’re up for the maximum amount of time.

It gives people a chance to weigh up their options and consider whether or not they’d like to go for something while it’s on special. It’s best for all concerned really 🙂

This week, we’ve got special offers on a portable external drive, a graphics card and a digital photo frame (since nobody buys themselves a digital photo frame, it’s an excellent one to buy as a gift).

WD Passport Studio 320GB:

Western Digital’s Passport remains among the most popular USB-powered portable externals we stock, while it’s bigger brother, the Western Digital Elements, dominates the 1TB external range in a fairly similar fashion.

Click through to see our page for the WD Passport Studio 320GB 🙂

The 320GB Passport Studio is a little different though, in that it boasts Firewire support, which is nothing to be sneezed at. It does mean you’ll be paying a little more for the privilege, but the advantages are fairly plane; Firewire is that bit quicker than USB if you’re doing a big transfer.

While most notebooks (and since it’s a USB-powered external we’ll assume notebook users will be the greater portion of those interested) don’t boast their own Firewire ports, Mac users will likely already be fairly familiar with the standard. Moreover, it supports standard USB 2.0 connections as well, so if you’re an occasional Mac user it’s well worth looking into.

For those Mac users out there considering it, it’s also an ideal home for a Time Machine backup, especially considering the fact that it’s already silver, so it’ll blend in neatly with your existing hardware… which probably isn’t as important when you’re considering a backup as it is to me, but it’s a consideration 😉

All that aside, the WD Passport Studio 320GB is knocked down by 25% this week to €119. Not bad at all.

Special Offers – Week of November 16th

November 16, 2009

Good afternoon all, I hope you’re all well. For those who had asked over the weekend and during the day, I’m very much recovered since last week, thanks for your concern 🙂 Anyway, for those who aren’t used to how the Monday afternoon blog post, we tend to post the special offers we have at the start of the week. It gives everyone the maximum possible time to consider picking something up while it’s reduced.

This week we have special offers on a netbook, a graphics card and a home NAS setup.

Asus EEE PC 1000HD:

Asus is fairly widely credited with having been one of the manufacturers that really got behind netbooks in a big way before they were fashionable. That means that Asus has been in the netbook game a lot longer than most other manufacturers, and it shows over some of the competition.

Asus

Click through to see our page for the Asus EEE PC 1000HD 🙂

The EEE PC 1000HD has long been one of the standards by which other netbooks are measured. It boasts a solid 10.1″ case, a 900MHz Intel Celeron M processor, 1GB of RAM, a 1.3 Megapixel webcam and a 3-in-1 card reader, for those who absolutely must upload photos on the go.

It’s also got 160GB of hard drive space, which means you won’t be too tight for space if you like watching a bit of video on a machine you can carry around with you without too much trouble.

The Asus EEE PC 1000HD is knocked down by just under 10% this week to €255. As ever with netbooks, it’s ideal for students looking for something nice and light to take notes on without breaking the bank, especially considering the scrapes students tend to get into with hardware 😉

For more details, you can check out our product page for the Asus EEE 1000HD.

I feel like this would be a dreadful time to point out that it’s National Tollerance Day, but in any case, The ASUS EEE 1000HD is also available in white.

Ion Based Netbooks Delayed

August 27, 2009

The first two netbooks set to incorporate Nvidia’s new Ion platform have been delayed so that they don’t launch just before Microsoft’s upcoming Windows 7 release, rendering them out of date as soon as they’re purchased.

nvidea-ion2

Instead, The Inquirer is reporting that both Samsung and Lenovo have opted to delay the launch of their new, relatively high-performance netbooks until they can ship with Windows 7 installed. Of course, this has a knock on effect, not only for Nvidia, which must by now be painfully aware that there aren’t any netbooks on the markets using its much touted Ion board, but for customers who may end up footing the extra bill for Windows 7 installs.

Build Your Own – Gaming PC

August 12, 2009

When we asked people what they wanted to see next in our Build Your Own series, one of the responses we got from a surprising number of people was that they’d like to see a Build Your Own Gaming PC article that kept to a reasonable budget.

Building Your Own - Because not all gaming machines need to look like this...

Building Your Own - Because not all gaming machines need to look like this...

With that in mind, I asked Denis from our RMA department what he’d use to build a gaming machine that stayed as close as possible to a €1000 price limit. Actually, I first asked for a €100 limit, which was just confusing, but once we’d hashed out the typos we were ready to go. This is going to be a fairly straightforward article; we’ll list the parts we recommend and give some impression, where necessary, of why we’ve chosen them.

Asus P5Q Deluxe, P45, Socket-775:
Seeing as a system is always built around the mainboard, it’s where I tend to start when I outline a build. Naturally, if you want to deviate from our recommendations (which is where the fun of a DIY machine generally comes from) then you’ll have to make sure it’s compatible with all of the other bits and pieces.

Motherboard

There’s not too much to say about a board on its own, apart from the fact that it’s got support for Crossfire, should you decide to go that route. It can be a bit of a headache to get everything set up and working correctly, but once you have it up and running nicely, a decent Crossfire setup is something you can really take pride in.

You can check out the Asus P5Q Deluxe here. If you hit the page you can see that it’s won a raft of awards and Editor’s Choice picks, which is always good to see 🙂 It’ll set you back €137.50.
